Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: Does one size fit all?
A1: No, geysers come in different shapes and sizes. A 300L geyser is 3 times larger than a 100L geyser for example. Use our Product Details page to determine which pack you need.Q2: What is the benefit of having plastic dust covers on the geyserduvet panels?
A2: The dust cover keeps dust off the insulation. This is important because dust accumulation over time will reduce the insulation properties of the insulation material. In addition, the dust cover is an additional layer of insulation to trap air. The dust covers also make it easy to tape the panels in place.
Q3: How long can I expect the geyserduvet to last?
A3:The insulation material is guaranteed to retain its properties for 30 years. We recently inspected one of the first Geyserduvet installations (2003) and were pleased to find that it was still intact. The tape binding had managed to withstand the drafty, dusty attic conditions.
Q4: Why does your insulation not have a foil lining?
A4: Foil lining is good for keeping radiated heat out. It is not effective in preventing heat conduction and convection which are the main causes of hot water cylinder and pipe heat losses. Foil lining would be an unnecessary cost.
Q5: How do you cover the 6th surface of a rectangular geyser that is against (lying on) the drip tray or fastened to the wall?
A5: You cannot cover this surface effectively with a geyser blanket. The best you can do is to insulate the cavity under the drip in the case of horizontal installations. This may require far more insulation than what is supplied in the geyserduvet pack.Q6: Should I cover the inspection cover for the thermostat?
A6: We recommend that you do cover the inspection cover with a short panel. It can be removed for repairs or if you want to change the thermostat setting. Remember to tape it back into position afterward to avoid heat loss.
